Resilient and Happy School Office Teams
Wendy's Story
I took over the school office manager position at my school two years ago. The staff were dedicated but were feeling unloved and under appreciated by the rest of the school and by some parents in particular. In my previous position I had started staff development with a focus on team building and motivation. During morning tea chats with my team I felt that they would also benefit from skills and confidence building.
On a student-free day we brought the Resilient and Happy School Office Teams workshop into our school. The teaching staff were a bit surprised that the non-teaching staff were undertaking training as well. Michael ran an engaging, fun and inspiring two-hour workshop for two teams of twenty or so. Everyone was challenged to learn more about themselves and to explore ways to cope with the challenges we face when dealing with people who are grumpy or pushy.
The program suited the needs of our group and we now feel empowered to set boundaries and to seek support from each other. The session was definitely loads of fun and has each of us talking about ways to improve our work environment.

The assembled non-teaching staff from a large Melbourne school gathered for a two-hour resilience training workshop on a cold Winter’s morning. They discussed, reflected, challenged and played with ideas and strategies to help them deal with the many relationship and time management issues that confront them on a daily basis. Two hours later they were warm and excited.
A few days later a large group of non-teaching staff from a Catholic secondary college in Sydney spent 5 hours undertaking a workshop where they explored specific workplace wellness issues and team building. At day’s end they had ideas, strategies and motivation to implement change. Both schools were using parts of the School Office Wellness Program The first school group focussed on resilience and workplace happiness. The second group focussed on team building, relationship building and personal goal planning. Both groups undertook the Happy @ School and Saying No training modules. |
